Cirrus Delivers SR20s to US Air Force Academy

On June 20 two Cirrus SR20 single-engine piston trainers were delivered to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the US Air Force Academy. The aircraft are the first of 25 that will be handed over under the terms of a $6.1 million contract awarded on March 8. All are due to be in service by May 2012 and they will be operated by the school in its Powered Flight Program as T-53As. The Cirrus SR20 was selected by Air Education and Training Command to replace the Academy's fleet of 20 Diamond Aircraft T-52As (DA40), which have been leased for use 15^ the 557th Flying Training Squadron (FTS) for the last two years.
