Cirrus Aircraft will deliver 25 SR20 trainers to the US Air Force academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, under a $6.1 million contract. Deliveries of the redesignated T-53As will start in the third quarter of this year and run through 2012, the company said. The aircraft will feature its air-frame parachute system, airbag seatbelts, integrated fuselage roll cage and the Cirrus Perspective by Garmin avionics suite. The Air Education and Training Command last year launched a programme to replace the Cessna 172/T-41C Mescalaros, which have been in use since 1968.
