Private firm Sentinel lands security contract with EU delegation

The private security firm Sentinel (formerly SMS Security Consultancy) owned by the Frenchman Gilles Bourguignon is to assume responsibility for the security arrangements and personal safety of the delegation of the European Union (EU) in Morocco. The company, which is legally registered in Malta, was awarded this contract worth nearly €9m by the European External Action Service (EEAS) on 15 May. Set to run for four years and in principle extendable, it will involve protecting the delegation's diplomats and facilities and providing security staff and alarm and video surveillance systems as well as GPS geolocation for vehicles. Until now in North Africa, Sentinel had been present in Libya, where it operates mainly in Cyrenaica. In October, as reported by Maghreb Confidential, Gilles Bourguignon teamed up with the French firm AICS Sentinel run by Christian Richard and Christophe Bonamy (the president of the Club des entreprises françaises de sûreté à l'international) in a bid to win business in North Africa and the Middle East.
