The Third Shall be First with the Tempest

Formed at Larkhill on May 13, 1912, No 3 Sqn can proudly boast to be one of the RAF's oldest "aeroplane" squadrons. The unit served with distinction during the First World War, arriving in France in August 1914 with Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2CS, having already flown no less than 16 different types since its formation. During the Second World War, having operated Hawker Hurricanes for almost four years and specialising in the nightfighter and intruder role, in February 1943 another well-built Hawker product was presented to the squadron, namely the Typhoon IB.
