There can be no one who has not complained about the cost of fuel. Even in the USA there have been public protests as pump prices have risen to a heady $4 (£2.46) a gallon. In Europe, of course, we passed that figure years ago, and for Avgas, the 100-octane aviation fuel, the price is even higher. In the past month most airfields in the UK passed the unfortunate milestone of £2 per litre. If, like me, you are still an Imperialist, that is more than £9 per gallon. Just brimming the fuel tank of a de Havilland Tiger Moth will cost you the best part of £150 a go, and for warbirds the numbers are eye-watering.
