The first operation using the Handley Page Halifax I was carried out on the night of March 10/11, 1941. By the year's end the RAF had five operational Halifax squadrons. On September 12, 1941, the type was officially launched at Handley Page's Radlett, Hertfordshire, factory. Staff from The Aeroplane were on hand to cover the event, and the following fascinating reportage, which first appeared in the September 19, 1941, issue, offers a rare insight into a little-known aspect of the Halifax's history.
