Increased concerns regarding terrorist attacks, along with environmental pressures to control vessel discharges and the need to control drug smuggling highlight the need for robust Ship Hull Inspection capabilities. Inspections are not conducted regularly due to need for extensive planning, expense and the unacceptable levels of risk. Current approaches are diver-centric. This is dangerous, time consuming and cannot assure 100% coverage. Re-acquiring possible targets is also very difficult.
