Lancaster airborne again

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Avro Lancaster I, PA474, flew back to RAF Coningsby from Duxford during the late afternoon of 11 September, following completion of a 10-month extended 'minor plus' period of maintenance with the Aircraft Restoration Company inside its Stephenson Hangar. Its first display appearance of the year came two weeks later at the annual BBMF Members' Day on 25 September, an event staged exclusively for members of Lincolnshire's Lancaster Association and the RAF Memorial Flight Club. The Lancaster was flown by Flt Lt Seb Davey and Flt Lt Paul Wise in formation with Gp Capt Matt Peterson in Hawker Hurricane IIc PZ865, Sqn Ldr Mark Discombe in Supermarine Spitfire IIa P7350, Flt Lt Andy Preece in Spitfire Vb AB910, Sqn Ldr Mark Sugden in Spitfire IX MK356, Sqn Ldr Mark Long flying Spitfire XVIe TE311, and Flt Lt Neil Farrell at the helm of Douglas Dakota Ⅲ ZA947.
