The European Science Foundation Promotes Excellence In Materials Science Research

The European Science Foundation (ESF) with its 34-year history in funding scientific networking activities that span across European borders has been the instigator of several programs within the field of materials science. The main results of these programs have made a real impact in the field, and are contributing to a new class of researchers that will be the leaders of the European Research Area (ERA). Among the scientists involved in these programs, there have been two EURYI (European Young Investigators Awards) awardees, ERC (European Research Council) awardees, and RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry) awardees.rnThe ESF is an organization promoting networking and forward-looking activities in science, but the core science has to be done at the bench. With the help of the EC Framework Program FP6, the ESF was able to do just that. EUROCORES (European Collaborative Research) has for a long time been a flagship instrument of the ESF promoting the integration and cooperation of scientists funded by their own research councils.
