Little is known about connections between adoption and two important emerging adult tasks: occupation and parenting plans. Ten female emerging adults were interviewed about their adoption, occupational, and future parent-role identities. Themes linking adoption to occupation were (1) desire to âgive backâ and (2) quest for knowledge. Themes connecting adoption to future parent-roles included (1) desire to experience what her mother missed, (2) importance of genetics, (3) history will not repeat, and (4) thoughts on adopting her own child. Future research should continue to investigate adoption's impact on identity, as this exploratory study used a limited nonprobability sample.View full textDownload full textKEYWORDSadoption, identity, emerging adulthoodRelated var addthis_config = { ui_cobrand: "Taylor & Francis Online", services_compact: "citeulike, netvibes, twitter, technorati, delicious, linkedin, facebook, stumbleupon, digg, google, more", pubid: "ra-4dff56cd6bb1830b" }; Add to shortlist Link Permalink http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/10926755.2010.481707
