As teacher education programs continue to search for ways to prepare future educators for the challenges and the joys of urban schools, this research seeks to provide specific ways for teacher candidates to build on their professional dispositions to build strong relationships through specific culturally appropriate teaching strategies. The author suggests a key starting place is for teacher educators to define and describe the critical elements necessary to develop relationships that are essential to successful schooling.
