Energy Training Hub combats skills shortage

With vast skills gaps emerging, there is an urgent need for more vocational training. As Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable notes "...in the past vocational training was not valued; now it's considered vital." According to the 19th Oil and Gas Survey, conducted by Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by law firm Bond Dickinson, a record number of contractors in the oil and gas sector are looking to recruit in the next 12 months. Although confidence in the sector remains high, business growth is regularly constrained by skills shortages. In the study, operators reported ongoing difficulty in recruiting managerial or professional employees, as well as those in technical and skilled trades, to replace core staff. Half again put the loss of staff down to competitors.
