摘要

Letting Go of Legacy Services is a collection of nine case studies that illustrates how libraries have reviewed the services they offer and either changed or eliminated them in order to offer new services or address budget challenges. With many years' experience in library leadership positions, editors Mary Evangeliste and Katherine Furlong are well positioned to address the issue of evaluating library services. The introduction describes how the editors became interested in assessing legacy library services. They introduce the concept of "planned abandonment," espoused by management leaders such as Frances Hesselbein and Peter Drucker. Planned abandonment is the strategy of identifying and discarding practices that no longer work in order to ensure that an organization's services are able to meet future needs.
