Review: Partner-notification interventions can reduce sexually transmitted infections

The review by Trelle and colleagues supports the need to consider treatingnthe sexual partners of a person presenting with an STI. Partnernotificationninterventions—PDPT, patient referral plus writtenninformation for partners, and sampling kits for partners of indexnpatients—are superior to simple patient referral. PDPT decreased PRIsnin index cases and is the simplest approach. However, PDPT may notnbe the optimal strategy for treating STIs in sexual partners.
