Recently, we have seen a growing trend in the design and fabricationrnof personalized figurines, created by scanning real peoplernand then physically reproducing miniature statues with 3D printers.rnThis is currently a hot topic both in academia and industry, andrnthe printed figurines are gaining more and more realism, especiallyrnwith state-of-the-art facial scanning technology improving. However,rncurrent systems all contain the same limitation - no previousrnmethod is able to suitably capture personalized hair-styles for physicalrnreproduction. Typically, the subject’s hair is approximated veryrncoarsely or replaced completely with a template model. In this paperrnwe present the first method for stylized hair capture, a techniquernto reconstruct an individual’s actual hair-style in a manner suitablernfor physical reproduction. Inspired by centuries-old artistic sculptures,rnour method generates hair as a closed-manifold surface, yetrncontains the structural and color elements stylized in a way thatrncaptures the defining characteristics of the hair-style. The key tornour approach is a novel multi-view stylization algorithm, which extendsrnfeature-preserving color filtering from 2D images to irregularrnmanifolds in 3D, and introduces abstract geometric details that arerncoherent with the color stylization. The proposed technique fitsrnnaturally in traditional pipelines for figurine reproduction, and werndemonstrate the robustness and versatility of our approach by capturingrnseveral subjects with widely varying hair-styles.
