I am not the sort of person who goes around jabbing my fellow human beings in the chest and saying:'I told you so.' But such has been the deep pleasure at the England cricket team winning the Ashes back by beating Australia that I am going to step out of character just this once. I would refer you back to my column which appeared in this space back in September 2003 (p24). It was about the strength of teamwork and how it comes about. One example I used was Michael Vaughan, who at that time had just made a successful debut as captain of the England one-day cricket team. In an interview at the time he was asked what made a good leader. 'Understanding all the people in the team,' he had replied. 'Treating them as they need to be treated. Making them feel good about themselves and confident.'
