Prior to his keynote speech at the institute's annual conference this month, Ed Balls MP outlines his views on the City of London's competitiveness. Looking back on my first five months as the City and financial services minister, I have been greatly impressed by the strength and depth of talent that underpins our truly global financial services industry. For 300 years, London's success has been based on our commitment to the rule of law and the highest professional standards. It has been built on determination to innovate and always to respond to new challenges; high-quality indigenous finance professionals and an ability to attract talent from across the world; and our long-standing tradition of openness and internationalism.
