The Companies (Interest Rate for Unauthorised Political Donations or Expenditure) Regulations 2007 (SI 2007/2242) came into force on 1 October 2007. They provide that where a company has made a political donation or incurred political expenditure without the authorisation required by the Companies Act 2006, the directors are liable to make good to the company the amount of the unauthorised transaction or expenditure with interest - at a rate of 8% per annum.
