Peter Williamson, chair of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, was the keynote speaker at the ICAEW Solicitors Group's annual conference. Williamson outlined the sweeping changes arising from the Legal Services Act, including measures of particular interest to reporting accountants engaged in Solicitors' Accounts Rules work. He said that from March 2009, accountants would have a statutory duty to alert the SRA to evidence of fraud or theft or other information that would 'cause concern about a solicitor being a fit and proper person to handle client money'.
