ICAEW has given a qualified welcome to leaked draft audit proposals from the European Commission - but only in so far as they bolster independence, improve audit quality and ensure market confidence. It questions the Commission's apparent premise underlying the proposals that the profession is not sufficiently independent and that this has eroded trust and undermined confidence.
