As unemployment figures rise yet again, now at their highest level since 1994, it is clear that the UK economy is struggling to show signs of recovery. The government's much vaunted objective of rebalancing the economy with private sector jobs to offset public sector cuts is barely working. While this may be the year of the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, there is an air of caution across business. Despite the launch of headline-grabbing projects like the HS2 high speed train, long-term infrastructure projects are not going to change the immediate economic landscape.
