IS BRIDGE A SPORT?

The issue of whether bridge is a sport has raised its head once again. The FTT decided in February 2014 that bridge (the well-known card game) was plainly not a 'sport', and therefore could not fall under the sports exemption (TC/2012/9526). On appeal, the English Bridge Union Ltd has succeeded in persuading the Upper Tribunal to refer questions on the matter to the Court of Justice of the European Union (UKUT 401).
