Using a Panamanian offshore structure to hide his earnings was recommended by the banking group's private bank in Switzerland, HSBC chief executive Stuart Gulliver told a Treasury select Committee hearing, in defence of his convoluted tax arrangements. Committee chair Andrew Tyrie MP accused Gulliver of 'muddying the water with these extraordinary tax arrangements'.
