m A modification on noncoding RNAs. m A is deposited on ncRNAs by m A writers consisting of the METTL3-METTL14-WTAP-RBM15/15B-KIAA1429 complex and many other methyltransferases such as METTL16, NSun2, and ZCCHC4. m A can be removed by two m A erasers: ALKBH5 and FTO. The function of m A is mediated partly by m A readers, which have been identified in members of the HNRNP family, the YTH domain-containing protein family, and NKAP. m A is known to be involved in RNA biogenesis and functions, including miRNA processing, pre-mRNA splicing, RNA structure, RNA-RNA interaction, and RNA translation and degradation
