摘要

Hypoxia followed by reoxygenation (HR) and ischemia-reperfusion (IR) cause cell death in neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVM) primarily through the generation of oxidative stress. Extracellular catalase (CAT) has not been effective in reducing or eliminating IR or HR-induced cell death due both to extracellular degradation and poor cellular uptake.Aims1) to determine if a cell penetrating catalase derivative with enhanced peroxisome targeting efficiency (catalase-SKL) increases intracellular levels of the antioxidant enzyme in NVRM; and 2) to determine if catalase-SKL protects against both HR and IR injury.
