Who Do Smokers Feel Ought to Be Responsible for Informing People about the Dangers Associated with Smoking and Regulating Smoking Behaviors?

Purpose:The focus of this paper is to examine the extent to which a community-based sample of current cigarette smokers believes it to be the responsibility of outside persons and agencies to inform the public about the dangers of smoking and/or to regulate smoking behaviors (herein termed REGULATE). Also investigated is how REGULATE relates to smokers’ attitudes toward cigarette smoking and actual smoking practices, and whether REGULATE matters when the influence of other key variables is taken into account.
