ON BEING AN AGING WOMAN ACTIVIST

Joan Ditzion, co-founder of Our Bodies Ourselves and co-author of all editions of Our Bodies, Ourselves, will reflect upon her journey as an aging activist and the interplay between the activist, professional and personal threads of her life. Aging is a personal and political process and it’s impossible to age in our society without encountering ageist attitudes- personal, cultural and institutional which more greatly impacts women. The feminist approach to deconstructing sexism gives us gives us a way to deal with ageism. Together we need to change the aging paradigm and create new non-ageist narratives that reflect the diversity and complexity of our aging journeys and improve the social status of aging women.
