“Medical rounds!” is an animated hyperCard program that presents case simulations in clinical medicine. The student manipulates the harrassed intern Fred Nerdley along his daily rounds and assists him in making the correct diagnoses in the various rooms. The program uses synthetic speech and lip synchronization using the HyperAnimator speech program. Easy connections can be made, if desired, with a laser video disc to show actual case material, with CD-ROM MedLine or other large databases, or with other programs. “Medical Rounds!” optimizes use of the computer in its use of case simulations, access to large databases, animation and sound, and fun in the arcade tradition. The program contains an authoring system which enables the instructor to alter previous cases or construct new cases, using new patients in new rooms.
