The content of Xia Tonghe' s fan-face inscription for Mr. Nan Hu was a copy from Selected Inscriptions of Complicated Legal Case in Scholars' Circle by Peng Shaosheng, the Tien Si in the Qing Dy-nasty, a short comment of The Qualitative Book a dialog between Cheng Hao and Zhang Zait, the two fa-mous representatives of Confucianism. The inscription involved five persons, among whom four were Tien Si and one a winner of provincial examination, all the elites in the imperial examinations, and all legiti-mate representatives of Confucianism, but all dabbling at the Buddha and Tao thoughts. Among the five, Xia Tonghe and other two converted to Buddhism.
