In this paper, we will evaluate the research output of Chinese mainland universities in three regions of east, center and west by making use of some scientometric indicators on the basis of ESI database. On the one hand, if we don' t take the discipline into account, we can find out that, in terms of the research output, the east region is the champion, followed by the center region and the west region. On the other hand, when it is taken into consideration, the amount of key and superior disciplines in the east region is still higher than that in the center and west region. In addition, for most disciplines, the AI and CPP/FCSm indicators demonstrate a better score in the east region but a worse one in the center and west region. From these, we conclude that it is necessary for mainland China to strengthen the regional coordinated development in the research resources of universities.%以ESI数据库为基础,按照中国入选高校的地理分布,采用科学计量学指标对中国各区域高校的研究产出进行了评价.从不分学科的研究产出来看,中国存在东部强、中部次之、西部弱的区域发展非平衡现象；从分学科的研究产出来看,中国的重点学科和优势学科的数量分布表现出东部多、中西部少,大多数学科的活跃程度和影响力程度是东部强、中西部弱.中国有必要加强高校研究资源的区域协调发展.
