In addition to tumor cells, tumors contain tumor cells, other stroma cells and the extracellular matrix. These are collectively called the "tumor microenvironment". The stroma cells include fibroblasts, endothelial cells, inflammatory cells, adipose cells and so on. Interestingly, the distribution of stroma cells, the properties of the extra cellular matrix (ECM) and the metabolites available can vary greatly between areas of a single tumor. The state of these stroma cells within tumors has a profound effect on metastasis and can even be used to predict the likelihood of recurrence. In this review, each of the components of this dynamic network will be examined. We will show that there are a multitude of complex interactions and a host of molecules involved in tumorogenesis and metastasis.%在肿瘤组织中,除了肿瘤细胞外还有其他成分包括间质细胞和细胞外基质(ECM),这些共同构成肿瘤微环境.
