An Assessment of the Bush Administration’s “New Defense Strategy”

On September 30, 2001, the U. S. Department of Defense (DOD) Published the“Quadrennial Defense Review Report” (hereafter referred to as Report). This is the Bush administration's first militroy and strategic report as well as the first defense policy statement published by the United States after the September 11 events. At the core of the Report is the proposal of a 'new defense strategy”. A serious analysis of this new strategy will be of great importance for us to understand how the September 11 events have impacted the U.S. military strategy and influenced the direction of U.S. defense policy.
