An Analysis of Verbal Humor in American Sitcom The Big Bang Theory

standing within the framework of Relevance Theory.This paper,using The Big Bang Theory as a corpus,analyzes the humor generated in the cognitive process of searching for relevance.According to the Relevance Theory,the understanding of humor is a process in which the hearer finds"relevance"in what seems"irrelevant".The author hopes that this analysis can help more people understand and appreciate the humor in The Big Bang Theory.And meanwhile their personal sense of humor can also be improved.
