Agony of Drifty Mind and Emotion: Tentative Analysis on the Rootless Theme of Fool for Love

Sam Shepard is an outstanding playwright of Off-Off Broadway theatre in America.Fool for Love gives expression to anxiety and ambivalence of inner mind with the development of modern material world.This paper analyzes the emotional predicament and agony of main characters to reveal the rootless theme of this play,and explores the reasons for emergence of this theme in terms of the playwright himself and changes from social environment and cultural thoughts.
