The Glass Menagerie is Tennessee Williams's first successful play. He uses several symbols in this play and enforces the tragic effect of the characters. Most people think that the unicorn represents Laura herself, especially her peculiarity, but to my understanding, it's more like Jim O'Connor, rare and special yet tragic. My essay provides a new interpretation to the symbolic meaning of the unicorn, highlighting the tragic and fragile feature of it.
