Study on The Light of the World from the Perspective of Binary Oppositions

摘要

Structuralism is employed to analyze language, culture and society in 1900 s. It's an effective theory to anatomize literary works. The light of the world is a short story composed by Ernest Hemingway, the most important and outstanding author since the death of Shakespeare. The story is dissected from binary oppositions, a key element in Structuralism. Two binary oppositions of the Light of the World have been clarified: the lies and true heart of two whores, and the light of the world and the world without light.
