Cultivating Intercultural Awareness for Non-English Majors——Tak-ing Hubei University of Education for Example

     

摘要

On the basis of the differences between high-context and low-context cultures, the author did a survey in Hubei Univer-sity of Education on the current condition of non-English majors'awareness. According to the high-context and low-context cul-tures of Hall's theory, the writer chooses China and the U.S. as the representatives respectively. The result shows that non-English major'awareness needs improving pressingly on the contextual differences, and having intercultural communication in a success way between high-context and low-context cultures is rather important for English learners. The author expects to give some advic-es on the ways to cultivate and improve English majors'intercultural communication competence.
