Salusins are novel bioactive peptides with hypotension and mitogenic activities,which ubiquitously expressed in kinds of tissues including, hematopoietic system, endocrine system and central nervous system. Recent studies indicate the expression of salusin-a in rat. The distributions of salusin-a and salusin-(3 in rat are tissue-specific. Both salusin-a and salusin-p regulates blood pressure and heart rate by brain mechanism, inhibits ventricular myocytes calcium currents, protects ischemic myocardium, and enhances the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells.
