乔姆斯基明言其对于笛卡尔与皮尔士思想的继承，但笛卡尔的理性主义思想与皮尔士的实用主义思想在本质上却又是相互冲突的。深入研究乔姆斯基的认识论基础将有助于理解这一冲突在乔姆斯基语言理论体系中的“调和”；同时，这一研究会进一步明确乔姆斯基语言理论的科学内涵与理性主义本质。%Chomsky states clearly that his linguistic theory derives from the ideas of both Descartes and Peirce. However, one being of rationalism and the other of pragmatism, they are quite on the contrary in nature. An in-depth study into Chomsky＇ s epistemological basis reveals how these two conflicting systems of ideas reconcile; besides, the study also helps to clarify the nature of rationalism in Chomsky＇ s linguistic theory.
