理论的主要作用之一是用于解释现象，从解释现象的角度研究理论有助于发现在应用理论过程中所存在的问题。基于这种认识，本文对格特的关联翻译理论和奈达的对等理论中所解释的翻译现象进行了比较，指出了格特理论中的直接翻译和间接翻译实际上和奈达理论中的形式对等和动态对等别无二致，而奈达对风格翻译范畴的解释要胜于格特的解释。据此，本文指出我们对理论的应用要有理性的选择和分析，而不要盲目地“求新”。%Studying translation theories in terms of their explanation of phenomena can contribute to finding out the problems in the application of translation theories, for one major role of theories is to account for phenomena. As a result, the article eom- pares translation phenomena explained in Gutt＇ s relevance translation theories and those in Nida＇ s equivalence theories, and points out that direct translation and indirect translation in Gutt＇ s theories are essentially equivalent to Nida＇ s formal equiva- lence and dynamic equivalence respectively, and Nida＇ s explanation for translation of styles can cover Gutt＇ s explanation for it. Therefore, the article suggests that we have rational analysis and choice in applying translation theories.
