AbstrAct Nāgārjuna'sMūlamadhyamakakārikā was interpreted in accordance with its Candrakīrti's commentary, thePrasannapadā, by early Tibetandbu ma thinkers, i.e., Pa tshab Nyi ma grags (1055?-1145?) and his disciples Zhang Thang sag pa 'Byung gnas ye shes,alias Ye shes 'byung gnas, and Rma bya Byang chub brtson 'grus (?-1185). In their commentaries on theMūlamadhyamakakārikāaccompanied by thePrasannapadā, which comprises of twenty-seven chapters, they recorded the variety of the chapter titles and divided them into groups according to their respective subjects. By examining what title they adopted for each chapter and how they divided the chapters, the present paper traces the process of the adoption of theMūlamadhyamakakārikā in the early Tibetandbu ma circle.
