《顾颉刚日记》当中有很多非常生活化的记载，这对研究当时的社会生活面貌颇有帮助。抗战期间，物价腾高，购买力下降，广大知识分子战前那种较为轻松的生活状态不再，迅速陷入了困窘的境地。此类记述在《日记》中有不同程度的体现。战前，顾颉刚的收入基本保证其本人及全家的日常开支，日记中未见有关经济困难的记载。但是自1940年开始，此类记载出现并增多，且呈现出日渐严重的趋势。这给顾颉刚本人的日常生活和学术研究带来了不少困扰。%There are many living records in Gu Jiegang's Diary, which are helpful to the study of social life at that time. This kind of records appeared in the diary. Before the war, Gu Jiegang's income could make ends meet, so there were no records about economic difficulties. However, since 1940, this kind of records appeared with increasingly serious trend, which bothered his daily life and academic research.
