By depicting the physical space and the ecological environment of the future London in TwoFragments, Ian McEwan explores the theme of ecology, which includes two respects:one is concerned with nature, and the other is about humanity. In the novel, he precisely manifests a prospect of the depraved London and thus unfolds truthfully the emotional state and existing predicament of London people as the subject of metropolis.
