A world-class university needs a world-class president. “985 project” Universities are the main forces to build world-class universities in China. The selection of presidents also need to meet the needs of the purpose. By means of a survey on the “985 project” university Presidents, we can see that these presidents have similar ages, good-education, outstanding academic achievements and educational management experience. Meanwhile, they are comparatively weak in higher education management knowledge and internationalization. Thus, the selection of “985 project” University's presidents should have the selection criteria, increase the participation of the faculty and students. It is also advised that we can draw on the successful experience of joint colleges between the Chinese universities and overseas one in their selection of the presidents so as to ensure that the choice of the president both conform to the requirements of the state policy and the school-based development needs.%一流的大学需要一流的校长。作为我国世界一流大学建设的主力军，“985工程”大学校长应符合其大学发展的需要。通过对“985工程”大学现任校长的调查研究可以发现，这些大学校长的年龄分布相对集中、具有良好的教育经历与卓越的学术成就，并且具有相应的教育管理经历等。但具体来看，我国“985工程”大学校长在高等教育理论知识、国际化程度等方面略显不足。因此，“985工程”大学校长选拔需要确立制度化的遴选标准、增加教师、学生等利益相关者的参与机制，并且可以借鉴“中外合作大学”校长的遴选经验，以确保所选择的校长既符合国家政策要求又符合校本发展需求。
