M. Coetzee’s ecological writing is contained within his postcolonial writing. Therefore, ecological themes intertwine with postcolonial themes in Coetzee's works, which possesses a typical feature of postcolonial ecological writing. As far as the study of Coetzee's works is concerned, previous comments mainly focus on analyzing Coetzee's literary writ-ing from the perspective of postcolonial theory and Coetzee’s rich postcolonial ecological writing hasn't been paid enough attention to for long. Life and Time of Michael·K is one of the most important works which reflect Coetzee's postcolonial ecological concerns. In this novel, Coetzee's postcolonial ecological writing is by no means to emptily praise or romanticize nature, but associates with South Africa’s brutal ethic-colonial war and ethnic-colonial rule, with a clear ethical and po-litical tendency. By exploring relevant postcolonial ecological concerns contained in Life and Time of Michael·K, we are able to get a glimpse of Coetzee’s postcolonial ecological ethics, namely, respecting for all forms of life, protecting the natural environment, promoting the compatibility and harmony between human beings and nature as well as fighting against all kinds of hegemonies.
