摘要

Nominal phrases and their modifications in English for Science and Technology （EST） constitute a unique grammar branch. Statistically, reduced relative clauses （RRCs） take up a high rate of occurrence in terms of frequency and complexity. This paper first introduces the stylistic features of EST, in terms of vocabulary, grammar and discourse, followed by an example - based analysis and illustration of comprehension and translation skills of RRCs under the guidance of Functional Equivalence.%科技英语名词性短语及其修饰成分构成了一个独特的语法分支,统计显示其中的压缩从句的使用频率和复杂度非常高。本文首先介绍了科技英语的文体特点,包括词汇特点、句法特点和篇章衔接特点,然后配以大量的例句,从功能等值理论的视角探讨科技英语中压缩从句的理解和翻译。
