失败的协调者：“第三空间”理论视角下《等待野蛮人》中行政长官的形象

Waiting for the Barbarians tells a story about the conflict between the “civilization”of Imperialism and the “barbarism”of ethnic minorities.In the story,the old magistrate is in the situation of this conflict and is com-mitted to coordinate the relationship between the imperialism and the barbarians.By analyzing the image of the magistrate from the angle of Homi Bhabha’s the Third Space Theory,it is clear that the magistrate is considered as a coordinator,but because the imperialism strongly refuses to communicate with barbarians,he failed in the end and became the spokesman and the victim of imperialism.%《等待野蛮人》讲述了帝国的“文明”与弱小民族的“野蛮”相碰撞的故事。故事中行政长官处于两种文化相撞时产生的“第三空间”里，并致力于协调帝国与野蛮人之间的关系。从霍米·巴巴的“第三空间”理论视角分析行政长官的形象，得出帝国拒绝使两种文化进行交流，行政长官最终协调失败，并成为帝国主义的代言人和牺牲品。
