It not only shows the tough guy spirit but the obvious tragedy implication as well. Through the old man’ s fishing results, we can ex-plain Santiago’ s fighting sprit which shows the Oedipal tragedy of nothingness. Meanwhile, we can also find the strong invincible hard man spirit in his fishing process. Apart from this, we may find that in this work, there flows an implication of Jesus‘ redemption from a metaphysical understanding upon the old man ’ s fighting against the sharks.
