Tsuda Soukichi and Hasegawa Nyozekan are two representatives of Laoism scholars in the early Showa period in Japan and their studies show a sharp contrast in their evaluation of Laoism,characterizing the study of Laoism at that time.Both of them turned their study into a criticism of the then feudalist culture of the ruling class and the fast expansion of government power,as well as an expression of their vision of a culture which is based mainly upon the life of the citizens of the nation as a whole.%津田左右吉和长谷川如是闲是日本昭和初期《老子》思想研究的代表,二者的《老子》研究表明,对《老子》思想"褒贬不一"是这个时期《老子》研究的一大特征。在传统与近代化冲突的近代日本,具有批判精神的津田左右吉与长谷川如是闲以研究《老子》为媒介,批判封建的权势阶级文化,批判日益膨胀的国家机能,倡导以"国民"为主体的日本文化论。
