cqvip:Thirty-threeyears have elapsed since China and France established their diplomatic relations. Constituting a major factor for easing the international situation, the establishment and development of the Sino-French relations, during the Cold War period, frustrated the international anti-China forces’ plots to isolate and discriminate against China and realized General Charles de Gaulle ’s significant goal of establishing France’s status as an independent rnaJor power by opposing the domination by Amerlca’ and the former Soviet Union over the world, thus adding an illustrious chapter to the contemporary international relations. The timely resumptian and improvement of the Sino-French relations after certain twists and turns were not only achieved through joint endeavour and out of realistic needs of the two sides, but also pushed forward by the solid foundation of bilateral relations and its latest developments. It is believed that President Chirac’s forthcoming visit to China will enhance the continued progress of the Sino-French relations.
